Refund Policy
When you can get money back on a flight, and how long it takes.
Last updated October 6, 2026
Whether a ticket can be refunded is decided by the airline's fare rules and by the law. CipheroTravel does not write those rules, but we do the paperwork for you and follow your refund through to the end.
When you are owed a refund
Under US Department of Transportation rules, you are owed a refund if the airline cancels your flight or makes a significant change and you decide not to accept the alternative. A significant change includes moving your departure or arrival by more than 3 hours on a domestic trip or more than 6 hours on an international trip, switching your departure or arrival airport, or adding connections. The refund covers the unused part of the ticket, including taxes and the CipheroTravel service fee for that travel, and goes back to the card or account you paid with.
Refundable fares can be refunded under the conditions attached to that fare.
Cancel before the airline's void deadline, which is printed on your confirmation, and you get everything back, our service fee included.
Non-refundable tickets
Most cheaper fares cannot be refunded if you choose to cancel. In many cases the airline will give you credit toward a future trip instead, minus any penalty it charges. Some government taxes on an unused non-refundable ticket can still be returned, so ask us and we will check.
Asking for a refund
Call +1 (800) 000-0000 or email support@cipherotravel.com. Give us your CipheroTravel booking reference and the names of everyone on the booking. We will confirm whether you qualify and how much you should get back before we send the request to the airline.
How long it takes
After the airline approves a refund, money paid by credit card is usually returned within 7 business days. Other payment methods usually take up to 20 days. Your bank may need a little longer to show the credit on your statement. We will email you as your refund moves along.
Our fee for handling refunds
If you ask for a refund yourself after the void window has closed, a refund handling fee applies, starting at $50–$250 per traveler for a simple ticket (see Service Fees & Taxes for complex tickets). There is never a CipheroTravel fee when the refund is due to an airline cancellation or significant change.
